Betty’s Trees for Life fund

Post updated 1/10/19 with info on new funding rounds for 2020.

A call for applications has gone out to community and greenspace groups in Yorkshire for the Betty’s Trees for Life Fund. This is suitable for the likes of Bloom groups and Friends groups for parks and green spaces as well as Parish Councils, CICs, schools and social enterprises.

The fund aims to support groups working to improve local green spaces and wildlife habitats through tree planting projects, improved access to woodland and environmental management and education projects. The link between accessible green space and well being is well documented and the fund is also interested in projects that aim to use environmental activity to promote good physical and mental health. Improvement projects could also focus on invasive species removal, wildflower areas for pollinators, hedge planting, wildlife areas, education and access improvements etc.

Grants are available from £500 to £4000. The fund is currently accepting applications.  here will be two grant rounds in 2019/20 with decisions on applications for grant awards made in January and July. Deadlines for applications will be:-

25th November 2019 (for January panel)

8th June 2020 (for July panel)

Originally for projects in West or North Yorkshire, the fund is now open to groups across the whole of Yorkshire –see here for up to date details Furthermore, a useful idea of the type of projects funded can be gleaned by studying this list of successful 2019 grants

Applications which miss the deadline date will be put forward into the next funding round subject to available funding.

More info and application details on the website of the Two Ridings Community Foundation – the York-based charitable body which administers the grants for Betty’s.

I work in ecology and biodiversity in North Yorkshire. I'm often found outdoors snapping nature and landscapes or spotting birds. In the garden I enjoy having my hands in the earth and striving for the perfect mix of greens and browns in my compost. As a Dad and adopter I'm used to endless questions about the world around us, and generally have an answer up my sleeve for most things. If you spot me and my hat in real life or on social media do say hello!
